Teaching Philosophy & Materials

My first experience with teaching was in 8th grade when I started helping my mom with her university papers. She'd just returned to school for a Bachelor's degree after years of work and needed an extra set of eyes. Who better to ask than her studious, grammar-obsessed child? Well, it must have worked because she eventually graduated, and I gained valuable tutoring experience.

Entering my own undergraduate program, I continued tutoring first-year composition students. I already had a passion for languages, so I was studying for a degree in Linguistics. Eventually, I became an intern helping international students at my university. From there, I fell in love with teaching English as a Second Language. This led to pursuing a Master's degree in TESOL.

Upon graduating, I took a job in Thailand at Mahidol Wittayanusorn School. I stayed for 1 year, before relocating to a teaching job in Chiba, Japan. After disagreements with my employer over workplace conditions, I returned to work at MWIT where I've worked until now.

All of my experience has solidified my teaching philosophy; I believe in helping students increase their ability to communicate by finding ways for them to enjoy the language. In my teaching, I incorporate many games, task-based learning, and role play to ensure that students practice real language in a fun and safe way.
